COLLINGWOOD has locked away young defender Isaac Quaynor to a new two-year contract.

FULL FIXTURE Every round, every game

The rebounding backman, who made his debut three weeks ago for the Magpies, was not due to fall out of contract until the end of next year after his initial two-year standard contract.

But AFL.com.au understands the Pies, like most clubs with first-round draft selections, have added another two years to his stay, tying him to Collingwood until the end of 2022.

Quaynor joined the Magpies at last year's NAB AFL Draft via the Magpies' Next Generation Academy.

The club matched Greater Western Sydney's bid for Quaynor at pick No.13, swooping on the talented Oakleigh Chargers product.

After a run of strong form at VFL level, the 19-year-old was picked for his first senior game in round 16 against Hawthorn, where he gathered 18 disposals and looked comfortable at the level.

Last week he gathered 17 disposals in Collingwood's loss to Greater Western Sydney, and he's considered an important part of the Magpies' future given his smarts and versatility in the back half.

He will line up again for the Magpies in their important clash with Richmond on Friday night at the MCG.

His signing follows the recent commitments of midfield pair Taylor Adams, who signed to the Pies until the end of 2024, and Tom Phillips, who agreed to an extension through to the end of 2021.

Consistent defender Brayden Maynard also recently extended his stay at the Pies to the end of 2022.
