SYDNEY Swans ruckman Shane Mumford will gain extra match time at state level this weekend as he builds towards the round one clash with Greater Western Sydney.

Mumford is one of several Swans granted AFL permission to play in the club's reserves team on Friday night.

Premiership forward Mitch Morton will have his first hitout of the pre-season, while Nick Smith, Craig Bird and Martin Mattner will also appear.

Mumford missed the Swans' opening two NAB Cup matches, but turned in a good performance in the final practice match against Port Adelaide last weekend.

Also on the permission to play list released by the AFL on Thursday is Collingwood midfielder Dale Thomas, although he has not been named in a VFL squad published on the club's website.

The 25-year-old has battled a foot injury throughout the pre-season and was expected to be one to two weeks away from taking the field.

Tyson Goldsack will appear for the VFL Magpies against the Northern Blues at Visy Park on Friday as he continues to rebuild his fitness after post-season ankle surgery.

Other players from around the AFL set to line up at state level this weekend include Melbourne's Mitch Clark, Jack Trengove and Jack Viney, former Port Adelaide captain Dom Cassisi, St Kilda small forward Adam Schneider and highly rated Western Bulldogs draftee Jake Stringer.

Stringer rolled his ankle against Hawthorn in round two of the NAB Cup, but has made a strong recovery.
