GOLD Coast believes it has cleared a hurdle in negotiations to send Jaeger O'Meara to Hawthorn as it closes in on securing defender Pearce Hanley and ruckman Jarrod Witts.

The Suns have also expressed confidence that Dion Prestia will make his way to Richmond in a trade that they will involve pick No.6 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.

The Suns' negotiations with Hawthorn this week hit "a minor roadblock" on Wednesday when the Hawks committed to trading pick No.14 to the Sydney Swans for Tom Mitchell.

But Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said meaningful negotiations with Hawthorn had since continued, with Gold Coast honing in on specific Hawks it would request as part of that deal.

Hawthorn's trade with St Kilda on Friday afternoon, which resulted in the Hawks' holding pick No.10, could also be a breakthrough in the O'Meara deal.

"We're looking at a player, we’re looking at picks they can offer up," Ashcroft said on the Suns' website.

"We've been really open and transparent with expectations around players from their footy club.

"We've spoken to those players' managers and respectfully we've given Hawthorn the chance to talk to those players so they can give their individual clubs perspective of it."

Gold Coast believes it is getting close to finalising a trade sending Prestia to Richmond, insisting pick No.6 would form part of that deal.

AFL.com.au understands Prestia would not return to play with the Suns in 2017 if a trade could not be organised.

"We're quite confident we'll get a deal done with Richmond sooner rather than later and that all centres around their pick six," Ashcroft said.

Meanwhile, Ashcroft said trades to lure Hanley and Witts to Metricon Stadium would be confirmed in the coming days.

"Pearce has been well documented. We're really confident with Pearce. He has signalled his intentions to want to come to our footy club," Ashcroft said.

"His manager has backed that up. Brisbane are willing to go through a trade with Pearce so it's now down to the finer detail of confirming that trade and we're hoping that's done in a matter of days."

On finalising a trade for Witts, Ashcroft said: "Those discussions have been positive … we think the deal will be confirmed in the next couple of days."
