FREMANTLE superstar Nat Fyfe will be rested from Sunday's practice game against West Coast.

The two clubs have arranged a match behind closed doors, with the game to be live streamed on Fremantle's website from 10am.

Last year's No.5 selection Adam Cerra and exciting ruckman Sean Darcy are among the players to make their first appearance in 2018, along with Joel Hamling, Shane Kersten and Lee Spurr.

Meanwhile, Brad Sheppard will captain the Eagles' side while exciting forward duo Willie Rioli and Liam Ryan will be seen in tandem for the first time in a game.

Fyfe was outstanding in the Dockers' JLT Community Series loss to Adelaide last week and the plan is for the captain to line up against the Eagles in their JLT2 match in Joondalup at HBF Arena on Sunday, March 11, according to football manager Chris Bond.

"While Nat will play in our second JLT series game next weekend, we believe the break from playing this weekend will help with the management of his training load," Bond told fremantlefc.com.au.

"Nat has had a very strong pre-season, which included playing in the International Rules Series, and played in our first JLT series game last weekend."

Fyfe said this Western Derby would be a bit more tame compared to a home and away affair.

"We haven't had much direction from Ross as far as what he wants to get out of this game," Fyfe said.

"But I would bet it would be along the lines of putting in a fairly solid team and trying to build on what we did last week and really get ourselves ready for round one against Port Adelaide.

"It definitely won't have the spice, build-up or rivalry that a normal derby would have, but it's just an opportunity for our AFL team to verse another AFL team, practice our structures and focus on our footy."

The game has been moved from Subiaco Oval to Lathlain Park because the West Australian Football Commission found the original venue's turf wasn't up to standard.

"An increase in pre-season training activity at the ground from male and female state academies and umpires has resulted in additional wear on the playing surface and areas of inconsistency," the WAFC said in a statement.

"Due to these inconsistencies (in the playing surface), the decision has been made by all parties to shift the game in the best interests of player safety.

"The WAFC is undertaking ground maintenance work at Subiaco Oval to ensure the inconsistencies in the playing surface are rectified as soon as possible."
