WEST Coast midfielder Luke Shuey believes he's copped more attention from taggers this season than in any other in his AFL career.

The 24-year-old is averaging 22 disposals across 13 games this year and has kicked 11 goals. Last season Shuey averaged just 21.5 touches in 14 games and kicked nine goals, although his season was plagued with hamstring issues.

His best season in terms of average disposals was 2012 when he had 23 per week and kicked 19 goals in 21 matches.

The pacey midfielder says the loss of Daniel Kerr and Andrew Embley to retirement last season and the injury to Scott Selwood has seen the complexion of the Eagles midfield change significantly this year.

"I think I have come up against more attention from opposition this year than any other year, but that is just part of football and is part of my development," Shuey said.

"I have faced a lot more challenges this year than any other year, but I would like to think I can finish the last six or seven games off strongly."

Shuey said he is learning to work his way through tags with the help of Eagles assistants Brady Rawlings and Adam Selwood, who both played as taggers for much of their careers.

"Brades has really good insight because he has done it at the top level for so long," Shuey said.

"So I am working with him and working with Adam Selwood as well this year has certainly helped me."

Eagles coach Adam Simpson is searching for more midfield depth within his squad. A season-ending pectoral injury to Matt Rosa has compounded the situation this week, but Shuey has faith that the future of the Eagles midfield is bright.

"I think with Dom (Sheed) coming through, Brant Colledge coming through, obviously we get Scooter (Scott Selwood) back next year, I think the attention will get shared around a lot," Shuey said.

"We've got a really good crop of youngsters coming through and I’m looking forward to being a part of this midfield for a while."

The Eagles have also lost Josh Kennedy this week due to suspension.

West Coast confirmed on Tuesday that Kennedy would accept the one match penalty offered for his head-high bump on Sydney Swans youngster Zak Jones.

The Eagles will travel to the Gabba to take on the Brisbane Lions this Saturday night without their leading goalkicker, but Shuey believes they have an adequate replacement up forward.

"We've seen Jeremy McGovern come in and show that he’s more than capable of playing a key position role up forward for us," Shuey said.

"So, if anything, we're spoilt for forwards, so we like to think we can cover Josh's loss.

"It's a must win game for us going into the bye, but I'm confident we can cover Josh's loss and should be capable of kicking a winning score."
