DESPITE riding a three-game winning streak and being on the edge of the top eight, Adelaide is still performing far from its best, according to veteran defender Brent Reilly.

Winless after the opening three rounds, Adelaide has won is past three games and could sneak into the top eight with a win against Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Crows scored a nine-point victory against the Western Bulldogs to square their season at 3-3.

It was labelled an ugly win by coach Brenton Sanderson and Reilly said the club was still a long way short of its best form.

"We played some pretty ordinary footy on the weekend and let them back into the game which is unfortunate but to come home with a win like that, it was an ugly win, but to get the four points really helped us," Reilly said on Tuesday.

"I said to the boys yesterday that you look back at the end of the year and you go 'I'm glad we won that game'… we can reflect on those games and really appreciate the four points.

"We're not playing our best footy at the moment but certainly we've shown some glimpses of it."

One area really starting to click is the Crows' forward line, particularly with the return of the versatile Tom Lynch.

Lynch was sensational against the Bulldogs after coming back from a shoulder injury the week before, collecting 25 disposals, booting two goals and setting up two more.

The presence of a third tall in attack also helped James Podsiadly and Josh Jenkins kick three goals each.

The Crows are ranked fifth for marks inside 50, averaging more than 12 a game and are the third highest-scoring unit in the competition with 86 goals behind Port (100) and Hawthorn (108).

With Taylor Walker back from injury and closing in on an AFL return, coach Brenton Sanderson is suddenly faced with a forward line selection dilemma: who does he drop to squeeze Walker in?

Reilly wouldn't speculate as to when Walker would AFL return but said when that time came, the club's offence would prove difficult to stop.

"Our forward line's working a treat at the moment," he said.

"I don't know who's going to miss out [when Walker returns] but as I said before 'Lynchy' is like a midfielder who plays in the forward line so he can play either tall or small.

"A fit Tex Walker fits into any team, I don't care whether you're Hawthorn or Geelong - it doesn't really matter.

"If we can get him back fit and firing I think we're going to be a real force, a good team."
