HAWTHORN has put the finishing touches on their preparation for the AFL grand final with a light training session at the club's Waverley headquarters.

The fitness of Jack Gunston and Luke Hodge has been the big talking point this week but the pair joined their teammates and moved freely in the 55-minute session held in front of about 5000 fans.

Defender Josh Gibson spoke to reporters ahead of the training run and said that the Hawks' focus remained solely on defeating West Coast on Saturday and not the historic opportunity at a third premiership in a row.

Given Hawthorn's strong form in the two games since the West Coast loss, if Gunston returns then whoever makes way for him will be desperately unlucky.

"If he's available to play, then I'm pretty certain we're going to pick him and there will be some heartbreak story," coach Alastair Clarkson said.

Otherwise Thursday night's grand final team announcements should be straightforward.

The Hawks have no other major injury concerns and the Eagles will probably announce an unchanged lineup after their preliminary final win over North Melbourne.
