FRESH from being involved in the "worst piece of play of the year, if not the decade", Richmond defender Alex Rance will get a chance to atone against one of his favourite opponents on Sunday night.

Rance has played four games against North Melbourne since the introduction of the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade.

Gif and go: who had the worse backline brain fade?

He has averaged 13.7 player ratings points in those matches, compared to an average of 9.7 against the other 16 clubs.

Rance has had an indifferent 2014 season, with some good form mixed with some poor performances and a foot injury that sidelined him for six weeks.

Nevertheless, he has climbed from 135 to 110 on the player ratings table since the season began (his great form last season is the key factor in his rise).

Another player who will come up against one of his favourite opponents in round 12 is North Melbourne's Drew Petrie.

The big forward, who has been off the boil this year, has averaged 19.4 player ratings points in his past four matches against Richmond.

He has averaged just 11.8 points against the other clubs.

In contrast, Geelong star Steve Johnson is coming up against one of his bogey teams this weekend.

Johnson averages only 7.8 players ratings points when he plays the Blues, yet he averages 14.2 against the other 16 clubs.

Fremantle duo Hayden Ballantyne and Tendai Mzungu have similarly poor records against Adelaide.

Ballantyne averages 5.3 fewer points against the Crows than he does against all his other opponents.

Mzungu averages 5.5 points against Adelaide, whereas he averages 9.9 against the other clubs.
