The Essendon Football Club is a leader in the Australian sports industry, with a proud history and strong values.  Driven to be recognised and respected as the most successful sporting club in Australia, both on and off the field, we are now seeking an Assistant Coach to join our Football department.

Reporting to the Senior Coach, you will be responsible for:
  • Individual player development to ensure they have a clear understanding of their role in executing team structures;
  • Working with the Director of Coaching for personal development and coordinated Club coaching philosophy purposes;
  • Educating, implementing and reviewing team structures;
  • Devising specific training drills to address development areas in consultation with Senior Coach and other assistants;
  • Seeking best practice and innovation in teaching and learning methods;
  • Conducting training and presentations as required by Senior Coach;
  • Preparation and oversight of the training schedule;
  • Effectively planning and implementation of structured programs for the playing group;
  • Motivating the playing group to achieve maximum potential; and
  • Opposition analysis at VFL and AFL level.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
  • Relevant qualifications and certifications;
  • Knowledge of AFL football structure;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively;
  • Competency in the Microsoft Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; and
  • Capable of working a wide array of hours with a varying time schedule to suit the seasonal priorities of the football industry.
