AFTER getting through Saturday's VFL practice match unscathed, Melbourne's Mitch Clark and Jack Trengove remain even money chances of playing in round one.

The duo have been removed from the club's injury list but will have to prove at training this week their readiness to play against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday.

Clark and co. solid in VFL

Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au that after playing three quarters on Saturday, the pair's conditions would be monitored before a decision would be made at selection as to whether they would be ready for AFL.

Clark would be a likely starter if the Demons' medical staff declared him fit to play.

Last week's hit-out was Clark's first game since he injured his foot in round 13, 2012 against Greater Western Sydney. He still won the Demons' goalkicking award with 29 goals in his 11 games.

Trengove suffered a stress fracture in his foot on the eve of the club's pre-season training camp in Darwin in December. The 21-year-old missed the NAB Cup series as he built his fitness.

Huge stakes for round one

Recruit Chris Dawes (hamstring) and emerging youngster Tom McDonald (ankle) did not play in the VFL on Saturday but will join full training this week and remain a chance to play against Port Adelaide.

Sam Blease has also been removed from the club's official injury list. He suffered an ankle injury in round one of the NAB Cup but played VFL on Saturday, as did Jack Viney who is in line to make his debut on Sunday.

Rohan Bail, who has been unable to join in contact training since mid-January because of concussion from two head knocks he received early in the year, has been cleared to join in training, however he will miss round one.

Jack Trengove is a midfielder in NAB AFL Fantasy. He averaged 75.95 in 2012. Register your team at AFL Fantasy Hub
