ST KILDA is close to gaining North Melbourne defender Luke Delaney with the trade expected to go through on Tuesday.

Delaney, 24, made it clear early in the trade period that he wanted to get to Seaford but the trade had been on the backburner until negotiations to get Nick Dal Santo to North Melbourne were completed.

Dal Santo joined the Kangaroos as a free agent on Friday after both St Kilda and the player agreed.

Delaney is likely to be traded for either pick No.59 or No.77 with details to be worked through overnight.

It was slow going on the trade floor once again on Monday. There were only two trades completed and Collingwood was pivotal to both.

The Magpies traded picks No.11, No.31 and No.49 to West Coast in exchange for picks No.6 and No.44. Collingwood then traded No.44 to the Sydney Swans for ruck/forward Jesse White.

The Eagles are expected to use either pick No.28 or No.31 to get Elliot Yeo from the Brisbane Lions, and they are as confident of selecting one of their top draft prospects with No.11 as they would have been with No.6. In essence, the trade with Collingwood that earned West Coast another second-round pick was a calculated risk to get Yeo for virtually nothing.

Collingwood hoped Sydney Swans midfielder Tony Armstrong might also be part of the White deal but it was not to be.

However Armstrong may still make his way to Collingwood after the trade period ends on Friday, with the Swans still working out the details of its list in the wake of the enormous Lance Franklin deal.

The Magpies will now go to the draft on November 21 with two top-10 picks - No.6 and No.10.

Meanwhile, former Western Bulldogs midfielder Daniel Cross will join the Demons in 2014, subject to a medical, after agreeing to a one-year deal with a one-year option.

The deal to get Jared Polec from the Brisbane Lions to Port Adelaide is taking time, with the Power on a mission to extract a pick in the mid-20s that it can exchange for Polec.

Although Port Adelaide is not prepared to trade its pick No.14 for Polec directly, the Power is prepared to potentially give that pick to another club in exchange for two picks in the 20s.

In that case, one pick in the 20s would go to the Lions and one would remain with the Power.

Port Adelaide is understood to have discussed that option with three clubs who have multiple picks within the 20s, including St Kilda (who have pick 24 and 25), Gold Coast (who have pick 20 and 27) and Greater Western Sydney (who hold picks 21 and 22 along with picks one or two).

The Suns will only use three selections in the draft so they may be open to trading up those two picks for one further up the order, leaving them with picks No.5, No.14 and No.43.

The Giants, however, have other priorities taking up their time while the Saints are in for a busy time as they look to finalise a deal for Lions ruckman Billy Longer, who declared on the weekend that he wanted to join the Saints.

Another option is for Port Adelaide to exchange pick 14 to the Lions for Polec and pick 29.

While that deal is being negotiated, the trading of other Lions players is being delayed.

Yeo was not confirmed as a West Coast player on Monday, but a deal appears imminent once the Lions have reached a deal with the Power on Polec.

The Polec talks are not only causing delays in the Yeo deal, with Sam Docherty's move to Carlton and a trade sending Patrick Karnezis to Collingwood also held up.

The Lions appear keen to get several deals in place before signing off on them.

Both the Docherty and Karnezis trades are expected to go through before Friday's 2pm deadline.

Not much progress was made between Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney in relation to Taylor Adams and Heath Shaw but it seems inevitable the deal will get done.

There is still some difference of opinion about what is a fair exchange but there is goodwill between the two parties to reach a conclusion before the 2pm trade deadline.

Collingwood recruiting manager Derek Hine told Gillette Trade Radio he was confident a deal would get done as both players had declared their wish to go to the respective clubs thrashing out the deal.

There were no further developments in the Josh Bruce deal with Greater Western Sydney and his management meeting on Monday.

Dual Geelong premiership player Josh Hunt remains hopeful of the Giants picking him up but St Kilda has ruled out the prospect of its veteran defender Sam Fisher joining GWS.

Tall forward Luke McGuane will be given free passage by Richmond to join the Brisbane Lions as a delisted free agent.

McGuane, who played 12 games in 2013, requested a move to the Lions but a trade appears unlikely this week.

Meanwhile Adelaide's Shaun McKernan is no closer to a move to Victoria after requesting a trade home early in September.

The 23-year-old, who was recruited with pick No.28 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, is yet to attract significant interest, despite a number of ruckmen moving clubs and opening spots.

At 196cm, McKernan is capable of playing both forward and in the ruck, but he has played just 32 games in five seasons, including nine in 2013.

Josh Mellington's future is also yet to take shape with the young Fremantle forward seeking a trade to a Victorian club.

After announcing his intentions to return home two weeks ago, a viable trade option for the 20-year-old is yet to materialise.

The Dockers have been willing to help Mellington find a new club, but he may be forced to move as a delisted free agent if a trade isn't arranged in the last four days of the trade period.

A deal to send Stewart Crameri from Essendon to the Western Bulldogs continues to take time with the Bombers seemingly determined to make it a drawn-out process.
