THERE is no risk of Gold Coast running out of legs against GWS despite calling up three players for their first game of the season, says Suns assistant coach Andy Lovell.

Tom Lynch (foot), Trent McKenzie (knee) and Danny Stanley (groin) will all play their first senior match for 2013 on Saturday after recovering from significant injuries.

However Lovell says the Suns have taken a cautious approach with their return and expects them all to run out four quarters strongly.

McKenzie has played four matches in the twos, while Lynch (three) and Stanley (two) have also played extended time there.

"We've got great faith in our conditioning staff and the way we've planned those three blokes with the conditioning and games at NEAFL level," Lovell said.

"There's no doubt the step up in intensity is enormous, but we also think with rotations the way they are now, if we do it well enough, they'll get through and still be able to impact at the end of the game.

"We think it steels us up a bit. All three are in good form in the NEAFL competition … so we're excited about bringing them back in."

McKenzie had a similar knee problem last season and was rushed back into the seniors after just one match at the lower level.

He initially struggled for form, before coming good late in the season.

Lovell said learning from that experience had held the club in good stead.

"He obviously suffered a similar knee injury to the year before. Fortunately he's been able to do a lot more training this time. He's played three more games in the NEAFL.

"He's done a lot more running, so his conditioning base is sounder and it gives him an opportunity to play and impact for us, and that's what we're looking for."

After finishing third in last year's best and fairest, Stanley said it was frustrating being stalled by back and adductor injuries, but admitted he needed time in the reserves.

"I think I did need a bit of a blow out and AFL is another step up," Stanley said.

"You can't go in half baked, you've got to make sure you're running on top of the ground and a couple of weeks back in the reserves, I was blowing pretty heavily so you definitely need that extra run.

"Hopefully I'll be right to go and it'll hold me in good stead this week."
