TALENTED young Greater Western Sydney defender Lachie Plowman says he has set no specific goals yet as he adapts to the high intensity demands of AFL training.

Plowman, selected at number three in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, has impressed on the track but he is taking each day as it comes during his first pre-season at an AFL club.

The 18-year-old said that while the daily expectations have been slightly different to what he originally anticipated, he has enjoyed the pre-season.

"The training now is just about getting the base fitness and improving from there," Plowman told AFL.com.au.

Plowman joined the club two days after the draft.

He was relatively fresh after having missed much of the 2012 season with a severe elbow injury.

He says he has fully recovered from that setback, with sunburn the only apparent danger whenever the bandage is removed.

"The elbow is fine now. [I'm] back into full training and it doesn't worry me at all," Plowman said.

"I just have to build a little bit of strength back up."

Plowman is living at Breakfast Point with the No.2 pick Jono O'Rourke and former Hawthorn premiership player Stephen Gilham.

Gilham is taking on the role of big brother and Plowman and O'Rourke are benefiting from his experience.

"He's actually been really good on and off field. On-field he has got a lot of experience [and is] similar to me being a backman. He had a lot to teach me and gives me a lot of tips here and there," Plowman said.

"He has taught me a lot about everyday living and showed me the ropes I guess."

Plowman said Gilham has been teaching him a lot about positioning and the communication that needs to happen among backmen to ensure structures are correct.

It's not the only teacher he has at his disposal. Kevin Sheedy had coached a little over half (329 games) of his current total of 657 games when Plowman was born in 1994.

Plowman's observation on the 65-year-old fits that of so many players who have played under him in his career.

"He's been pretty good. He's a bit eccentric. He's got a different view on the game and that is probably why he is who he is today," Plowman said. "He's always got something to say and something different that you wouldn't think of and it's always good."

With Sheedy in the final year as head coach before Leon Cameron takes on the senior role, there is little doubt the club will want to become competitive for longer.

"Last year winning the two games was a good achievement and I think from there, push to win a few more," Plowman said.
