STAR Collingwood midfielder Daniel Wells is no guarantee to face Port Adelaide on Sunday at the Adelaide Oval, while Mason Cox is set to replace the suspended Brodie Grundy in the ruck.

Wells, 32, suffered a left quad injury against North Melbourne last week and couldn't move as he would have liked.

"He got through training OK and we'll see how he pulls up, but given his lack of mobility towards the end of the game and through the game last week, he definitely has a query on whether he'll get up," coach Nathan Buckley said on Thursday.

"We'll give him every chance because he's in our best side."

"He's had a lot of experience in the game, so his feedback will be important, but how he pulls up tomorrow morning will be a big part of that decision."

Wells has played 10 matches in his first season as a Magpie since crossing over from North Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.

He picked up just five disposals from 75 per cent game time, just a week after one of the finest performances of his career when he racked up 34 disposals in the draw with Adelaide.

Grundy copped a two-match ban for a tackle on Ben Brown that left the big Roo concussed, opening up an opportunity for Cox's seventh game of the season.

"Coxy's done a lot of ruck work in the VFL in the last four-to-six (weeks). It's a great opportunity for him to show his ruck development over the last couple of years," Buckley said.

"We've seen him in the second ruck role, and he and Darcy (Moore) will share that responsibility."

Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around Buckley's coaching future in light of Gold Coast sacking Rodney Eade last Monday.

Collingwood is undergoing a review of its entire club and the coach said he would support the outcome, regardless of which way it went.

"Whatever the club needs and feels through this review is the right way to go forward, it'll have my 100 per cent support whether it's for or against," Buckley said.
