GOLD Coast defender Joshua Toy is yet to make up his mind about whether he wants to leave the club and return to Melbourne.

Toy - who has a congenital heart condition - is currently in Melbourne to discuss his plans with family and friends.

There has been speculation he has asked to be traded to a Melbourne club so he can be closer with his family, but his manager - James Pitcher of Strategic Sports Management - says his client is still weighing up his future.

"I haven't really got any indication, at this stage, when he'll actually make his final decision," Pitcher told AFL.com.au.

"But I've left the ball in his court and I'm waiting for him to get back to me."

Toy was one of the eligible 17-year-old access selections picked by Gold Coast in 2010, but would almost certainly have been a top three draft selection at the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.

If Toy does leave the club, the Suns are likely to demand a first-round draft pick.

However nothing is likely to happen until the Josh Caddy deal goes through, with hopes that will be completed by the end of the week.

Complicating matters is the fact the young Sun is out of contract.

At 185cm and 87kg, Toy reads the play well from half back and has a thumping right boot.

He was a highly regarded junior, having dominated at under-18 level for the Calder Cannons and Vic Metro in the National Championships.

Pitcher confirmed the Suns were pretty keen on retaining Toy, with Essendon and Hawthorn two of the clubs who had shown some interest in the talented youngster.

AFL.com.au understands Essendon's talks with Toy are in their early stages, however the Bombers opted not to comment when contacted.

Hawthorn also chose not to comment, while it's been reported the Western Bulldogs are also keen on the 20-year-old.

Toy was on the Bombers' radar before he was selected by the Suns in 2010.

Originally from TAC Cup club the Calder Cannons, he grew up in Essendon and supported the club as a child.

"Every club is touching base to see where he's at, but we haven't been able to get any firm indication as yet," Pitcher said.

"There hasn't been any club that's gone hard at him to try to get him, so far."

Toy has played 13 games in two seasons for the Suns since making his debut in 2011 and managed just five senior games this year.
