WEST Coast coach John Worsfold says decorated full-back Darren Glass sits comfortably among the best defenders the club has produced as he prepares to play his 200th match this Saturday.

Glass, a dual All-Australian, premiership player and two-time club champion, will become the 15th Eagle to play 200 games when he lines up against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium.

Worsfold said Glass had been a great servant of the club and held his own when compared to celebrated Eagles backmen Glen Jakovich and Ashley McIntosh.

"'Glassy' was twice the All Australian full-back, which is a glowing endorsement," Worsfold said from Patersons Stadium on Wednesday.

"In two seasons, he's been the most outstanding key defender in terms of full-backs in the game, so that stacks up there with all of them.

"He started in a team that had McIntosh and Jakovich still playing and played some games as a back-up defender or on the third tall forward.

"When those guys retired, he stepped up and took up the key position role and has done it brilliantly for us. I think he holds up pretty well."

Worsfold said the Eagles would watch a highlights video of Glass's career to reflect on "the heart he's put into the game for our club".

The 29-year-old has captained West Coast since the end of 2007, during an unsuccessful stretch for the club, but Worsfold said Glass had made an enormous contribution as skipper.

"There's always different eras that teams go through and 'Glassy' came through in an era when we were looking for a certain type of leadership and he's provided that extremely well," he said.

"He's intelligent, obviously a very talented footballer, very thoughtful [and a] very strong character. They're the key attributes with him as a person."

Glass is likely to line up on one of Hawthorn's power forwards this Saturday, with Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead combining to kick eight goals against Richmond in round four.

Worsfold said key defenders Mitch Brown, Eric Mackenzie and Glass were all being considered to play on Franklin.

"We've had a good look at that, so we've got a fair idea of which way we'll go," he said.

"It's fair to say we still rate our young key defenders strongly and we still rate our captain as a good key defender.

"It's going to be a challenge, but it's pretty much the same across the field - someone has to play on Cyril Rioli and Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell and all those guys.

"We'll pick a team that we think can match up pretty well on them and give it our best shot."
