GEELONG forward Cameron Mooney is set to return for the Cats' clash with North Melbourne at Skilled Stadium on Saturday, but skipper Cameron Ling continues to be dogged by hamstring problems.

Mooney missed Geelong's win over Hawthorn in round five with knee soreness, and he was able to rest his injury again last weekend when the Cats had the bye.

"He's looking pretty good," Geelong coach Chris Scott said on Tuesday.

"If he's in reasonable shape we're keen to play him, but as Cam himself has said this year, it's a one week at a time sort of thing.

"If he's feeling good enough to play, we're really keen to get him into the side because he is an important part of our team.

"But if he doesn't quite come up this week then we'll look to play him next week."

Scott is also concerned about the fitness of his captain.

"Cameron Ling's got a little bit of hamstring problem that is plaguing him a little bit.

"He had a significant tear through the pre-season and has come back and played really well. He had a great game against Hawthorn on Hodge.

"He's one that the break came at a good time for, but he hasn't trained all that well so far so he's not a certainty to play."

Young forward Mitch Brown has booted 12 goals in the VFL in the past two weeks, but Scott is unlikely to give him a berth in the seniors just yet.
