PORT Adelaide winger Jared Polec is in a race against time to be fit for the start of the season as he battles a hamstring injury.

Polec is set to return in four to five weeks, ruling him out of all of the JLT Community Series.

The Power open their season against Fremantle at Adelaide Oval on March 24.

Forwards Chad Wingard (hamstring), Lindsay Thomas (hamstring) and Todd Marshall (calf) will be assessed ahead of Sunday's opening pre-season game against West Coast in Perth.

Marshall played in the Power's internal trial on February 10, but pulled up sore and was scratched from last week's AFLX tournament in Adelaide.

In better news, star forward Robbie Gray is set to play against the Eagles after being cleared of an adductor injury.

Gray was originally named to captain the Power for AFLX, but was ruled out with a minor niggle.

Former Cat Steven Motlop is also likely to make his Power debut after overcoming a groin complaint.

Defender Matthew Broadbent remains the Power's biggest injury concern after having a second surgery on his troublesome ankle.
