Leigh Matthews has heaped praise on Cats star Joel Selwood, saying his bravery stands out.

“Selwood’s desperation and willingness to put his body into dangerous places borders on the fanatical,” Matthews said on afl.com.au.

“The manner in which he attacks the footy without a hint of self-preservation must be a great inspiration to his teammates and very scary for his family and friends.

“Selwood sets a standard in bravery that few could ever match. He is quite prepared to use his body as a Michael Voss-like battering ram whenever required.”

Selwood won the AFLPA’s most courageous player award and was named as All Australian for the first time. He is expected to repeat those honours again in 2010 and could add a third premiership in just his fourth season.
