Former AFL commissioner Colin Carter has rejoined the Geelong Football Club board.

Carter was appointed as a director at tonight's board meeting under clause 39.2 of the club's constitution.

Carter previously served on the Geelong board between 1987-93, and was vice-president in his final two years. Carter left the board to take up a position as AFL commissioner, a role he filled from 1993 until stepping down this year.

“We are thrilled to welcome Colin back to our board,”Geelong president Frank Costa said.

“Colin has an outstanding record with both the club and the AFL and he brings a wealth of experience to our board. Colin is a lateral thinker and will bring new energy and ideas to the club.”

Carter prepared the report, ‘Establishing the basis of future success’, adopted by the original VFL commission in 1985 as its strategy for competition equalization, ground rationalization and growing the national competition. Colin also initiated the project that led to the relocation of the AFL members from Waverly to the MCG and the development of the great Southern stand in 1987.

Carter is a senior adviser to the Boston Consulting Group and is a director of Wesfarmers, SEEK, World Vision, Indigenous Enterprise Partnerships and the Cape York Institute. He is chairman of the AFL Foundation.

Carter holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University.
