WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade has not ruled out making several changes to the side to take on the Brisbane Lions in Friday night's semi-final at the MCG.

Eade said he would talk to some players about their responsibility to "actually turn up this week", while others could find themselves on the outer.

"We'll think about changes. It depends on the opposition as well. They're a different make up to what Geelong are, so we'll have to take a look at that." Eade said on Tuesday.

"There's a couple of players that may be under the pump a little bit."

Brad Johnson, Robert Murphy and Andrejs Everitt all failed to take part in Tuesday's 45-minute training session at Whitten Oval.

Instead, Johnson and Murphy did cross-training as part of their individual programs, while Everitt was given an extra day's recovery after playing for Williamstown on Sunday.

Eade said Murphy was relying on pain-killing injections to get over his season-long knee soreness each week, but was confident of playing on Friday despite wrenching it against the Cats.

"It's part of his process. I think he gets frustrated he doesn't get a lot of time on the track," he said.

"There was that incident last week, but it's not the same spot. He just jammed his knee cap.

"The biggest issue is the six-day break, but he seems to have pulled up okay so we're confident he'll play."

Defender Tom Williams was unlikely to make a return to the seniors, while Tim Callan and Dylan Addison would be added to the selection mix, along with Everitt.

Eade said the fact the Dogs were able to recover from their 2008 qualifying loss to Hawthorn and beat the Sydney Swans the following week could boost their belief ahead of the do-or-die semi final.

"I think there is a bit of confidence there, but I don't think we really refer to history that much," he said.

"It's more about what we can do this year. We finished third; we deserve the second chance.

"We didn't play well last week, but we've got the second chance and we've got to make the most of it.

"The guys have proven they can recover during this year as well, and over the last couple of years.

"We did that during our game last week – we bounced back when we were down."

Eade also said the Dogs wouldn't draw anything from their positive recent record over the Lions, which includes six wins from the past seven head to heads.

"They'll certainly have a lot of confidence from the way they played last week," he said.

"They had a good, fighting win, and they nearly have a full list so it's going to be difficult."

He said the Lions wouldn't be any easier to beat this week despite getting through Saturday night's game with a host of sore players.

"They played well, those players respectively, and you could see that [Daniel] Merrett and [Daniel] Bradshaw weren't hampered at all," he said.

"They'll have [Josh] Drummond back and [Simon] Black's a superstar, as we know, so I think they'll gain more confidence from the game."
