THE LOSS of former stars has Adelaide better placed to deal with keeping midfield dynamos Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane, CEO Steven Trigg says.

Trigg is working through plans to ensure Dangerfield and Sloane - who become free agents at the end of 2015 - resist the temptation to return home to Victoria.

The year ahead looms as a critical period for the Crows list management team with Taylor Walker and Richard Douglas also out of contract at the end of next year.

“In the cases we’ve had before where we’ve had some players with the ‘go home’ factor at play, and on reflection, you just know they’re not as settled as you’d like them to be,” Trigg told the Sunday Footy Show.

“We would expect Rory Sloane to stay and the Crouch brothers to stay. It’s fair to say they do all seem settled, where in the past we’ve had some issues with that.

“We’d like to take the glass half full approach and expect him (Dangerfield ) to stay.

In recent years, Adelaide has watched Jack Gunston, Ivan Maric, Jonathan Griffin and Kurt Tippett leave and excel at their new clubs.

Others to depart include Phil Davis, Bernie Vince and Nathan Bock.

Dangerfield comes out of contract in 18 months, and despite no official offer in place, Trigg is expecting the 24-year-old to re-sign.

“We’ve been talking to him directionally about it but (there's been) no offer just yet,” Trigg said.

“We’re very confident that he will stay. It might seem a bit simplistic to say this but in essence he seems settled and he seems happy.

“Everything he’s said privately and publicly would indicate that he wants to stay.”
