THE 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final will be played on Saturday October 3, marking the 27th time in history the VFL/AFL has held an October Grand Final.

The later than usual date is due to the Cricket World Cup being staged in Australia and New Zealand in early 2015.

With key World Cup matches including the final scheduled at the MCG, the AFL delayed the start of the premiership season until all grounds were available.

Thanks to a historical quirk, the fixture means Collingwood fans must wait at least another year to see their team win a Grand Final on the last Saturday in September.

The Magpies' past two premierships have been won in October.

They broke their 32-year flag drought on October 6, 1990.

Twenty years later they needed two attempts to win their next silverware, drawing the 2010 Grand Final against St Kilda before winning the replay on October 2, 2010.

Collingwood's last victory in a September Grand Final came way back in 1958, when Phonse Kyne's men downed the Demons by 18 points.

This year's traditional Grand Final parade will be held on Friday October 2.

The results of the 26 October Grand Finals throughout the competition's history were:
