FREMANTLE’S Byron Schammer is free to play against Hawthorn after being found not guilty of striking Carlton’s Marc Murphy by the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.

Schammer was facing a one-week ban for the incident but told the tribunal that contact was negligible and said there was not enough force to constitute a strike.

Schammer told the tribunal the action was more a pull on the jumper than a strike and that Murphy had staged for a free kick.

Despite evidence from umpire Stephen McBurney that he had his eyes trained on both players and deemed the force of the contact worthy of reporting, the tribunal took only 10 minutes to agree with Schammer and find him not guilty.

Schammer said he would now be able to concentrate on the match against the Hawks.

“I’m very pleased with the decision and really looking forward to being in the team that takes on Hawthorn on Friday night,” Schammer said.
