This year marks the 35th year of the MCC Herald Sun Shield the most prestigious school boy’s football competition in Australia. AFL Victoria in partnership with the MCC Foundation and the Herald Sun is now in its 11th year of show casing the most talented senior boy’s school football teams across Victoria.

On Sunday 14 August, St Patricks College Ballarat and Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School played an epic MCC Herald Sun Shield Grand Final. The game was highlighted by strong hard committed football by both teams, each fighting hard to take advantage of the ball and showing a high level of skill and endeavour. PEGS lead in the first quarter being 11 pts but St Patricks fought back to have the scores level and half time.

The start of the final quarter saw St Patrick’s eight points in front but PEGS where relentless and scored  to make it all level at the eight minute mark of the last quarter.  St Patricks answered the challenge and stormed away kicking five out of the next six goals to defeat PEGS by 23 points.

MCC General Manager Member & Customer Services, Scott Butler was on hand to award the best player medallions the Neale Daniher Medal to Nick O’ Brien, St Patricks and the Kevin Sheenan Medal to Darcy Bailey Penleigh and Essendon Grammar and the Premiership Trophy to St Patrick’s Captain Nick O’Brien and proud coach Howard Clark.
