The Essendon Football Club has a reputation as a leader in the Australian sports industry, with a rich history spanning more than 140 years. Driven to be recognised and respected as the most successful sporting club in Australia, both on and off the field, we are now seeking a General Manager – People and Culture to bring their extensive human resources and life experiences to the Club to further enhance our team.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing strong leadership, direction & structure in people and culture programs across our entire organisation
  • Building strong relationships across the organisation and delivering on people and culture strategies and initiatives
  • Leading and delivering the people and culture strategies and initiatives that are aligned with the Club’s vision, strategic plans and cultural framework
  • Overseeing the principles underpinning internal governance
  • Taking a leadership role to elevate the recruitment and selection processes to ensure the quality of talent hired and promoted is high calibre and aligned to the Clubs culture and capability needs
  • Driving, monitoring and improving employee retention, capability development, wellness and engagement levels
  • Playing a key leadership and influencing role on all people and culture related matters with internal and external  stakeholders throughout the organisation
  • Actively participate as a member of the Executive team influencing and advising on all areas impacting the organisation including; structure, leadership, talent, culture, workforce capability needs and the Clubs brand reputation
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
  • Tertiary Qualified in human resources, business or related discipline
  • Extensive experiencing leading people and culture strategies and driving cultural change - with minimum 10 years experience in similar roles
  • Results focussed approach and be able to deal with issues and change in a proactive and pragmatic way
  • Is trustworthy, focused, energetic, driven and innovative
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to influence effectively at all levels of the organisation
  • Be ethically strong and values driven to further grow and promote the Club culture
  • Enjoy working in a fast- paced, challenging and changing environment including change management
  • A background in the sporting industry (would be advantageous but not necessary)
