GOLD Coast captain Gary Ablett says he is certain to play against Port Adelaide on Saturday night despite nursing an injured right hand.

Ablett sustained the injury in Saturday night's two-point loss to the Brisbane Lions and is struggling to clench a fist.

However, he says he'll be fine to take on the 3-0 Power, coached by former Suns assistant coach Ken Hinkley.

"I'll be ready to go this weekend," Ablett said, as he was announced as the new AFL Queensland ambassador for community football.

"I've got to get through training Wednesday night but the hand's not feeling too bad. I can't really clench it yet but I'm sure it'll be fine for the weekend."

Ablett said he could not remember the specific incident that caused the problem, but said x-rays and scans had cleared it of any substantial damage.

The most difficult thing was shaking hands post-match.

"It was funny after the game, it was a little awkward because I went up to shake their (Lions) hands and they were going in with the right hand and I was going with the left and I had to explain to a few of them that I hurt my hand during the game. It's good now."

Hinkley returns to Metricon Stadium on Saturday night not only as a former Suns assistant, but one of the biggest influences on Ablett's career from their time together at Geelong.

Ablett said the text messages had already flown between the pair early in the week.

"I got a text this morning asking who I'd like for him to play on me," Ablett laughed.

"And the end of the text said something like 'please take it easy on us'.

"They've started the season well, three and zip. I always knew he was going to be a great coach so it's a great challenge for us and hopefully we can have our second win and give them their first loss."

Suns ruckman Charlie Dixon suffered an Achilles injury at the weekend, but is still awaiting scan results to assess his availability.
