ST KILDA forward Eli Templeton has been taken to hospital in New Zealand for x-rays on a suspected broken arm.

Templeton was substituted out of the Saints' Anzac Day clash against the Brisbane Lions in Wellington in the first quarter clutching his left arm, and was taken from the ground in an ambulance.

The 18-year-old has been a livewire inclusion for the Saints since earning elevation from the rookie list, playing all six games this season.

The injury was a blow for St Kilda, which was already on the back foot against a red-hot Brisbane Lions side that entered the main break with a 25-point lead.

His early injury opened the door for substitute Shane Savage, who is a New Zealand ambassador for the Saints.
