THE AFL's Match Review Panel (MRP) has cleared three players of wrongdoing after the second round of NAB Cup matches.

Richmond recruit Ricky Petterd has no case to answer after the force of the contact he made with Essendon's Nick Kommer at Wangaratta on Saturday was deemed to be "below that required to constitute a reportable offence".

The same ruling cleared Carlton tagger Aaron Joseph and Sydney Swans premiership player Alex Johnson.

After viewing all available vision and receiving a medical report from Fremantle, the MRP decided Joseph should not be penalised for an incident involving fiery Freo forward Hayden Ballantyne during the last quarter of Saturday night's game at Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Johnson escaped a tripping charge after a collision with St Kilda's Clint Jones in the third quarter of Sunday's game at Etihad Stadium.

The MRP explained: "Jones has the ball and evades Johnson, who is coming towards him, before disposing of the ball. Johnson is wrong-footed and as Jones goes around him, the players' legs make contact. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence."
