COLLINGWOOD football manager Geoff Walsh says the Pies are against a cap on interchange rotations but must adapt as it is "inevitable" the rule will be introduced for premiership points in 2014.

The rule to cap interchange rotations to 20 a quarter will be implemented in round two of the NAB Cup, not impacting Collingwood against the Western Bulldogs and Essendon on Friday night night.

"It's inevitable there'll be a cap next year. There's no doubt we'll be playing under a cap in the premiership season for 2014," Walsh said.

"We've been a long time advocate of no restrictions and we would never vote for a cap.

"You can't beat City Hall, we know it's coming in.  Our training, like most clubs would be working around adaptations and how we're best going to cope with the limitations.

"If we had it our way we wouldn't be limiting it all.

Walsh said Pies fans would likely see Luke Ball, left out of tomorrow's squad, in action during the pre-season as he recovers from a knee reconstruction last year.

"Luke's not that far away. Luke was probably six to seven weeks after 'Caff' (Brent Macaffer) when he did his knee last year.

"His rehab's tracked accordingly. He's someone that we'd expect to take part of the NAB Cup at the back end."
