Key defender Rowe’s surgery on the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee went well last week and he will have a short break. While Rowe starts on his long rehabilitation, Irishman Byrne is close to playing after being sidelined for 11 months with the same injury. He is set to resume with the Northern Blues, who also have a bye this weekend. Liam Jones, who injured his left ankle late in the Northern Blues’ win over Sandringham on May 20, also hopes to be back after the bye. Veteran Dale Thomas, who missed last Sunday’s game against North Melbourne because of concussion and a broken nose, will be available after the bye. - Howard Kotton

Track report

Gibson had scans on his back on Monday after hurting it in the dramatic win over Carlton a day earlier, but he has not appeared on the club's injury list. The midfielder's 118 consecutive games are the longest active streak in the AFL. There was concern for  Dumont in his first match back, after missing the previous week with concussion, when he suffered another head knock against the Blues, but he passed a concussion test and he and club doctors have declared him ready to go for Saturday night's clash with Richmond. After three successive games in the VFL, Jacobs will be rested this week to manage his workload. - Marc McGowan

Callum Moore suffered a left ankle partial syndesmosis sprain in the VFL and will be wearing a moonboot for one week. He underwent an arthroscope, which ruled out the need for major surgery. Nathan Broad has recovered from a shoulder injury and returns in the VFL this weekend, meaning the Tigers needed to move Ivan Soldo back to the rookie list temporarily before re-elevating him in place of Shaun Hampson, who ran laps on Thursday. Ben Griffiths remains no closer to a return, with all around him treating his concussion issues like a long-term injury before he has more clarity on his playing future. - Nathan Schmook
