COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire will talk to coach Nathan Buckley about whether the Magpies great believes he is still the right person for the job as part of the club's ongoing "blueprint for the future" review.

Having recently returned from holiday to the "hysteria" of speculation on Buckley's future, McGuire said the club had made no approaches to any potential replacements for Buckley, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

The coach first raised the prospect of not seeking an extension to his contract in a television interview last month, telling Channel Nine: "I've also got a decision to think whether I'm going to put my hand up (and) whether I actually think that I'm getting the job done".

McGuire said that topic would be part of the conversations the Magpies' hierarchy would have with Buckley during the final six rounds of the season before deciding on his future after round 23.

Pies 'won't do the wrong thing' by Buckley: McGuire

"I'm actually scheduled to catch up with 'Bucks' tonight for a conversation just to catch up," McGuire told Adelaide radio station 5AA on Tuesday.

"We look at where the club's going and whether he thinks he's right to continue doing the job.

"We sit down and maturely look at the list and whether injuries have cruelled us again this year. All those types of things.

"When you take the hysteria out of it it's pretty straightforward. You work out whether there's a future going on or whether there's not."

McGuire took aim at media stories linking rival senior coaches, including North Melbourne's Brad Scott, to the club, saying: "There has been no approach to Brad Scott or any other coach".

"You can speculate as much as you like, but there's got to be some sort of semblance of what's going on," he said.

"If we were hiding under a rock fair enough, but we've come out and told everyone what's going on.

"Five weeks ago we came out and said we're doing a full blueprint for the future for our future.

"We came out last week and said there's going to be no decision on the coaching position, (for) which (the) contract comes up at the end of the year, until we get to the end of the year."
