The AFL wishes to advise the Tribunal will sit tonight at 5pm, Tuesday July 8, after North Melbourne’s Drew Petrie chose to contest the charge laid against him by the Match Review Panel. Hawthorn’s Brian Lake was also referred directly to the Tribunal. Charges will be heard in the order listed below and please also find the detail of those sanctions accepted:

AFL Tribunal, 5pm, Tuesday July 8:

Drew Petrie, North Melbourne, has been charged with a Level One Misconduct Offence for Making Unreasonable and Unnecessary Contact to the Face (125 points, one-match sanction) for making unreasonable and unnecessary contact to the face of Brian Lake, Hawthorn, during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between North Melbourne and Hawthorn, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 4, 2014.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record.

Brian Lake, Hawthorn, has been charged with Misconduct against Drew Petrie, North Melbourne, during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between Hawthorn and North Melbourne played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 4, 2014.   

In summary, under the rules available to the MRP, the matter has been directly referred to the Tribunal for its determination and he cannot accept an early plea on this matter. 

Sanctions Accepted:

Rory Thompson, Gold Coast Suns, has accepted a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record for striking Travis Cloke, Collingwood, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between the Gold Coast Suns and Collingwood, played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday July 5, 2014.

Luke McDonald, North Melbourne, has accepted a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record for tripping Luke Breust, Hawthorn, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between North Melbourne and Hawthorn, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday July 4, 2014.

Tom Rockliff, Brisbane Lions, has accepted a one-match sanction for striking Alex Rance, Richmond, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between the Brisbane Lions and Richmond, played at the MCG on Saturday July 5, 2014.

Claye Beams, Brisbane Lions, has accepted a $1950 sanction for making reckless contact with umpire Rob Findlay during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between the Brisbane Lions and Richmond, played at the MCG on Saturday July 5, 2014.

Josh Kennedy, West Coast, has accepted a one-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Zak Jones, Sydney Swans, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between West Coast and the Sydney Swans, played at Patersons Stadium on Sunday July 6, 2014.

Shane Mumford, GWS Giants, has accepted a reprimand and 60 points towards his future record for striking Josh Jenkins, Adelaide Crows, during the fourth quarter of the Round 16 match between the GWS Giants and the Adelaide Crows, played at Spotless Stadium on Saturday July 5, 2014.

Brendon Goddard, Essendon, has accepted a one-match sanction for engaging in rough conduct against Kane Cornes, Port Adelaide, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between Essendon and Port Adelaide, played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday July 5, 2014.
