GEELONG forward Tom Hawkins has passed all the required tests and is certain to line up in the Cats' big clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

It was feared Hawkins would be sidelined for at least a week after he was heavily concussed during Geelong's five-point loss to West Coast at Patersons Stadium.

But the 24-year-old has quickly overcome the setback.

"It's just a matter of recovering first of all and then going through a variety of tests with the physios throughout the week," Hawkins told CatsTV on Thursday afternoon.

"I've probably had a bit of a lighter load training-wise. Then I had to complete a (cognitive) test. That just indicates whether you're right to play.

"You let them know your symptoms and then you've got to do a variety of tests, so that was all done successfully."

Not surprisingly, Hawkins has no memory of the incident, which occurred late in the first quarter of the clash with the Eagles.

Hawkins crashed to ground after flying for a mark. He lay face down on the turf for a number of minutes while he was assessed, and he was then carried from the field on a stretcher.

"I have had a look back at the replay and it did look a bit nasty," he said.

"But I'm feeling great now and all ready to go for this weekend."

Despite the scare, Hawkins won't be playing conservatively against the Saints on Friday night.

"It was just one of those things that happens in football," he said. "I went for a mark and obviously my opponent was behind me.

"There was no intention of any tunnelling or anything. A few people have mentioned that to me. But it's just the way football is played.

"You have incidents and injuries like that. This is my first concussion.

"It doesn't really change the way you go about things."
