Malthouse apologises to Blues fans for 'worst game'
Blues' Friday night loss to Magpies prompts Malthouse to apologise to disappointed fans
MICK Malthouse has apologised to Carlton members for the club's poor showing against Collingwood on Friday night, promising a better effort for the remainder of the season.
In a video message posted on the Blues' website, Malthouse described the 41-point loss as his team's worst of 2013.
"Good morning everybody," the veteran coach said.
"Terribly sorry about the weekend.
"We produced our worst game for the year.
"We have to work through that and find out why, and do something about it.
"To all of our wonderful 50,000-plus members, we'd love to give you something back.
"Hopefully for the rest of this year we can show the spirit that we are renowned for and win games of football for you."
The Blues' win-loss record is now 6-8, and they're 11th on the AFL ladder, two wins plus percentage out of the top eight with eight games to play.
Compounding Carlton's woes is the knee injury to Jarrad Waite, which has the key forward in doubt for this weekend's clash with bogey team St Kilda.
If the 30-year-old's bone bruising does not settle in time to take on the Saints, responsibility will fall to Levi Casboult to provide a strong target up forward.
Casboult has booted just four goals in his seven games this season, but has declared himself ready to step up.
"I guess my form the last two weeks has been disappointing," Casboult told radio station SEN on Monday.
"But I guess with Waite going down, it provides an opportunity for me to stand up and show the world what I can do."
Carlton has lost four straight matches, and has won just two of its past 18 clashes with St Kilda.
The Saints won by nine points in the teams' last meeting, in round seven this season.
