SCANS have cleared Collingwood's Tyson Goldsack of a suspected hamstring injury and he is likely to play in Sunday's practice match against the Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium.

The Magpie utility, playing his first game in the pre-season after just 13 games in 2013, experienced tightness behind his knee on Saturday when Collingwood played Richmond in Wangaratta.

He sat out the last quarter amid fears he had injured his hamstring but Collingwood's director of football Rodney Eade confirmed to collingwoodfc.com.au on Monday that he was free of injury.

However, small forward Jarryd Blair will miss the club's training camp on the Gold Coast as he seeks to overcome a broken toe suffered a month ago. He is back in full training but is yet to play a practice match this pre-season and must be in some doubt to play in round one.

The other major injury worry for the Magpies is the promising midfielder Josh Thomas as he struggles to overcome knee tendonitis. Eade said his return remained a fortnight away.

"He’s had a bit of slow progression over the last three weeks," Eade said. "He’s stepping up his training now and will hopefully play in the VFL in a couple of weeks time."

In better news, the Magpies remain hopeful that Alan Toovey will make his comeback from a knee reconstruction on the Gold Coast. Eade said the date of Toovey's comeback was dependent on the surgeon giving him the final clearance to play.

Exciting mature-aged rookie Sam Dwyer was still recovering from a groin operation and the club hoped he would play VFL in two weeks' time while recruit Patrick Karnezis is expected to be ready to play by the end of March as he needed to do a mini pre-season as he recovered from osteitis pubis.

Taylor Adams missed the game against Richmond because of illness while Dayne Beams was rested. Both will travel to the Gold Coast.

The Magpies play Fremantle in the season opener at Etihad Stadium on Friday March 14.
