HAWTHORN has started its premiership celebrations in front of thousands of adoring fans at the MCG on Saturday night.

Hawks players were presented on-stage by five-time premiership winner Robert DiPierdomenico to a swarm of screaming supporters in brown and gold that stuck around for more than two hours after the final siren to see their heroes.

Indigenous quartet Lance Franklin, Cyril Rioli, Brad Hill and Shaun Burgoyne posed for photos with the premiership Cup in their first real chance to enjoy victory as a team.

Even coach Alastair Clarkson found time to let his hair down, hugging captain Luke Hodge with the Cup as the skipper was being interviewed.

Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold told AFL.com.au earlier that Clarkson deserved to be a two-time premiership coach.

As they waited in the race before being greeted by fans, the whole team joined in a chorus of Hunters and Collectors' 'Holy Grail' as the Aussie rock band belted out another rendition of the famous anthem.

The singing didn't stop there, as the fans then joined the team in a rousing version of Hawthorn's theme song.

The biggest cheers were saved for Hodge, Clarkson, Franklin, Rioli and Norm Smith medallist Brian Lake.

A loud chant of 'Cyyyyyriiiilllllll' went up when Rioli was presented.

The celebrations featured Aussie band Birds of Tokyo cranking out a number of tunes to the kick the party off for the tens of thousands of fans that stuck around.

The party has now moved to the Hawks' official Grand Final Dinner at Crown Palladium.

Players will join fans at Glenferrie Oval at noon on Sunday for a family day.
