THE TOP two players in the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Vero, will do battle when Gold Coast takes on Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Suns skipper Gary Ablett goes into round 14 rated the best player in the competition, while Crows midfielder Patrick Dangerfield sits second on the ratings ladder.

Both sides had byes last weekend, but Ablett was in brilliant form two weeks ago when the Suns were beaten by Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

His 36 possessions equated to 30.9 ratings points, which was the highest score in round 12.

The performance meant Ablett extended his lead at the top of the ratings table.

Dangerfield jumped from third to second last weekend – overtaking Sydney Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy – despite not playing.

The previous time he took to the field, which was against Richmond in round 12, Dangerfield was the Crows' best player, scoring 23.1 ratings points.

Regardless of how well he plays against the Suns on Saturday, Dangerfield won't be in a position to snatch the No. 1 spot anytime soon.

Ablett currently has 761 points, while Dangerfield has 632.

POTENTIAL MOVERS THIS WEEKEND
West Coast backman Shannon Hurn's serious ankle injury has opened the door for either Collingwood's Heath Shaw, Geelong's Harry Taylor or North Melbourne's Scott Thompson to assume the mantle as the top-rated defender this weekend.

Hurn has 485 points, while Shaw has 468 and Taylor and Thompson are locked together on 466.

Shaw amassed 24.3 points in his last outing, and a similar performance against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Saturday would see him overtake Hurn, whose points tally will begin to trend downwards in the coming weeks.

Hawthorn's Jarryd Roughead is likely to leap to No. 2 among forwards if his good form continues when the Hawks play the Lions at Aurora Stadium on Sunday.

Roughead is just five points behind Sydney Swans champion Adam Goodes, who won't play this weekend due to a knee injury.
