ST KILDA hopes to appoint a new coach before players return to pre-season training on November 18, with football manager Chris Pelchen to chair a six-person selection committee.

Pelchen will be joined by board members Andrew Thompson and Danni Roche, recently retired Saint Jason Blake, retired Geelong premiership captain Tom Harley and psychologist Matti Clements.

But while a statement released by the club on Monday confirmed it wanted a new coach by November 18, it insisted it wouldn't rush and claimed the process would be "as long as it needs to be to decide on the right person".

Richmond assistant Mark Williams, former club champion and current assistant at Collingwood Robert Harvey and Saints assistant Adam Kingsley are all reportedly on the selection committee's shortlist.

Former Carlton and Brisbane Lions coaches Brett Ratten and Michael Voss are also expected to be approached about the vacant role.
