GOLD Coast superstar Gary Ablett will need to pass a fitness test on Thursday to take his place against Collingwood on Saturday, but midfielder Aaron Hall appears certain to return from a hamstring injury.

Ablett was withdrawn from the team that lost to Sydney by 67 points last Saturday, missing his second game in three weeks, but the Suns have been pleased with his progress this week.

"He will need to be tested on Thursday to ensure his hamstring is 100 per cent," football manager Marcus Ashcroft said on the club's website.

"If he gets through that training session OK then he should line up on Saturday afternoon."

The Suns declared Hall and Pearce Hanley near certainties to take on the Magpies at Metricon Stadium, with the pair also recovering from hamstring injuries.

Hall has missed three matches, while Hanley was sidelined for last week's clash against the Swans.

"Pearce is right to go, he narrowly missed last weekend but has done a lot of training over the weekend," Ashcroft said.

"He trained last night and again today, so you expect him to play on Saturday afternoon.

"[Hall] was close last weekend but wasn’t risked, but again he’s done a lot of work over the last four to five days."
