GREATER Western Sydney might not face the AFL Commission after all in the wake of the Lachie Whitfield affair.

The League now says the matter could be sent to the AFL Tribunal or a Commission sub-committee.

A full Commission hearing is now just one of a number of scenarios.

The case had been set down for Tuesday, but has been adjourned.

"The AFL Commission will decide tomorrow (Tuesday) whether it will hear the matter at a later date, refer to matter to a sub-committee of the Commission or refer the matter in whole or in part to the AFL Tribunal," the League said in a statement provided to AFL.com.au on Monday.

"The outcome will be advised to all parties, the media and the wider football public as soon as it is determined."

The Giants were charged with conduct unbecoming after two former senior staff, and player Lachie Whitfield were suspended on a similar charge.

By deciding to fight the charge rather than agree to a negotiated outcome with the League, the Giants avoided losing any selections in last month's NAB AFL Draft.

Whitfield, 22, has already been suspended for six months.

Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert have been banned for 12 months.

The suspensions followed an incident last year where Allan and Lambert arranged for Whitfield to stay at Lambert's house in order to avoid the possibility of a drug test out of fear he may fail it.

Allan has subsequently quit his new position as Collingwood football manager, and been replaced by Geoff Walsh from North Melbourne.
