WEST Coast is still not the finished product and its midfield can definitely go to another level, Andrew Gaff says.

The Eagles sit one game off top spot on the ladder after a dominant 56-point win over Adelaide on Saturday night.

The midfield was much maligned at the start of the season but the Eagles' engine room has been in sparkling form. Gaff, Matt Priddis, Chris Masten, Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo and Dom Sheed each collected 26 disposals or more last Saturday and kicked 11 goals between them.

Gaff said the midfield was getting better by the week but it was nowhere near the finished product.

"We feel like each one of us is improving every week," Gaff said on Monday.

"We copped a bit of heat from the press about the midfield at the start of the year. We just try and get it done each week and we feel we are at the moment.

"We've proven over the first 15 rounds this year that we can do well against anyone. I think obviously you have seen the development of Yeo and Sheed and obviously (Liam) Duggan coming in. But we feel like guys like Shuey, Masten and obviously Priddis (are) still taking (their) game to another level. So we feel there's still (improvement) to go."

The Eagles face a potentially season-defining stretch over the next five weeks. They play Collingwood away, the Sydney Swans at home, Gold Coast away, and Hawthorn and Fremantle at Domain Stadium.

Gaff said the club was looking ahead with confidence.

"Clubs are going to start looking at us now, and we feel we've beaten some good sides and we know we've got some good sides coming up," Gaff said.

"We feel if we can keep doing what we have, we'll be tough to beat anywhere."

Collingwood at Etihad Stadium will be a huge test for the Eagles despite the fact the Magpies have lost their past three matches.

West Coast has not beaten Collingwood in Melbourne since round eight 2003 and Gaff said the Magpies would be tough to beat.

"We are under no illusions that despite losing three in a row, they played three pretty good teams and could have won all three," Gaff said

"They have some quality guys in the midfield, up forward and in defence.

"We haven't played too well at Etihad this year, so we have to start playing well anywhere and that starts on Saturday night.

"We know they are a good pressure team and we feel like we are as good a pressure team as any team in the comp, and if we can bring what we have so far, halfway through the year, we'll be pretty hard to beat."

Gaff will play his 100th game on Saturday night. The 23-year-old Victorian said he was extremely excited to play his milestone game in Melbourne.

"I am very proud to play 100 games for this great club," Gaff said.

"Friends and family will be there. But most importantly it’s about playing well and hopefully help get the team over the line in a big game."
