NUMBER one pick Montana Ham will wear No.18 for Sydney in honour of her late father Roy, who passed away seven years ago.

Fresh off Wednesday's NAB AFLW Draft, Ham and new West Coast forward Ella Roberts joined Credit to the Girls podcast.

"When I was about four, Dad would bring out the plastic sheets and he'd tell me all the positions, what they'd do and how to play them. So at a very young age, footy was drilled into me and was something I gravitated to, and I loved it," Ham said.

"He means everything to me. He's obviously my hero and still is my hero to this day. He taught me everything I know about footy, we would go out to the park and I'd walk around dropping the footy to make sure I was dropping it straight.

"Whenever I'd miss a kick, he'd come over to make sure my technique was in line. He really drilled into me from a young age the basics of footy, and it's something that's stuck with me, those fundamentals.

"To come this far, he's obviously not here with me today, but I know he'll be looking down on me proud. To do it for him – I've actually chosen to wear the number 18 on his back, which is his birthday. So every time I'll step onto the field, it'll be like he's with me."
