WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Claremont has upset East Fremantle to win the WAFLW premiership at Revo Fitness Arena on Saturday. East Fremantle went into Saturday's Grand Final hoping to become the first WAFLW team to finish a season undefeated but Claremont was too good, coming away eight-point winners. It was an even contest with plenty of momentum swings but the Tigers were able to get the edge, kicking three goals to two in the second half to clinch Claremont's first premiership in 21 years.

AFLW-Listed Players

Mikayla Western and Madeleine Scanlon were both drafted from Claremont to West Coast and Fremantle, respectively, last week and capped off the week with a premiership.

Western had 19 touches and kicked a crucial goal in the Grand Final and Scanlon had 17 disposals and six marks.

State League Players

Claremont's Jasmin Stewart was awarded the Lou Knitter Medal for best on ground in the Grand Final for her 29-disposal, five-mark and eight-tackle performance. Stewart stepped away from AFLW at the end of last season but has starred in the WAFLW since returning to play with Claremont.

Rachel Ortlepp kicked three goals from her nine disposals, including the first two goals of the game to get the Tigers off to the perfect start.

Claremont was also well serviced by Brooke Whyte who had 16 disposals, eight marks and a goal and Kate Orme who finished with 19 disposals.

East Fremantle's Laura Katherine was dominant in the ruck winning the hitouts and kicking three goals while Beth Beckett and Sharon Wong led the Sharks' midfield.

VICTORIA

Essendon capped off a dominant VFLW season to win the 2022 VFLW Grand Final by 35 points over the Southern Saints. The Bombers held the Southern Saints goalless on their way to their first VFLW Premiership in emphatic fashion. The premiership caps off a mighty rise for the Bombers, who have gone from the bottom of the ladder in 2018 in their inaugural season to the premiership just four years later.  

AFLW-Listed Players

Alana Barber won the Lisa Hardeman Medal for her best on ground Grand Final performance that included 18 disposals, seven clearances and an impressive 18 tackles.

The Bombers will be hoping VFLW co-captain and the club's first AFLW signing Georgia Nanscawen will be cleared of a serious knee injury after she left the field early in the fourth quarter. Up until then, Nanscawen was one of the Bombers' most influential players.

Jordan Zanchetta found plenty of the footy, finishing with 19 disposals, and forwards Federica Frew and Renee Tierney kicked two goals each.

State League Players

Courtney Ugle’s workrate was on display in Essendon's win with the midfielder finishing with an equal team-high 22 disposals.

Amelia Radford was among the best on ground votes for her 16-disposal, six-mark and eight-tackle performance.

Alex Morcom played a big role in keeping the Southern Saints goalless and Simone Nalder was dominant in the ruck.

Southern Saints' Hannah Stuart had a game-high 26 disposals to go with 11 tackles and was one of the best players on the ground, despite her team's loss.

She was well supported by Madison Capsalis and Rebecca Neaves, who fought all game for the Saints.

NEW SOUTH WALES

East Coast Eagles continue to hold top spot on the ladder after another dominant performance, this time defeating the Inner West Magpies by 34 points. Pennant Hills Demons had an upset 35-point win over the North Shore Bombers, who sit above them on the ladder. Manly Warringah Wolves held the UNSW-ES Bulldogs goalless in its 44 point win, while Sydney University won bragging rights over Macquarie University after it recorded a 31-point win over its rival university side.

State League Players

East Coast Eagles were well serviced by Maddi Finch who kicked two goals and Jade Swabey who also was in the best in the win over the Magpies.

For the Magpies, Eleri Morris and Madeline Convery who were among the votes for their efforts.

Pennant Hills' Brianna-Lee Wade’s four-goal performance set up the Demons' win over the North Shore Bombers, while Ella Morris was also commended for her work in the win.

Dominique Carruthers was singled out for her efforts which included a goal in the Bombers' loss.

Manly Warringah’s Kaitlyn Manning kicked two goals and was her side's best in the big win over the Bulldogs.

Maryanne Harley led the way for Sydney University, with her performance helping her side overcome rivals Macquarie University.

Lucy Gilfedder was also lively inside forward 50 for Sydney Uni, kicking three goals in the win.

Kristy Sutcliffe and Katie Fogarty did their best for Macquarie University in the loss.
