FREMANTLE veteran Kara Antonio's season is doubt after undergoing hamstring surgery.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury to her left leg at training last week.

"The club will consult with the surgeon to determine Antonio’s playing outlook for Season Seven of the NAB AFLW Competition," Fremantle said in a statement.

The season kicks off in three and a half weeks, and will run for 10 home-and-away rounds.

Former skipper Antonio posted an emotional response on her Instagram account.

"Sport can be cruel at times… but it’s the curveballs thrown at you like this one, that teaches you the important life lessons of resilience, gratitude, strength and mindset," Antonio said.

"Another little bump in the road that I will face head on, and come out the other side better for it."

Antonio had been weighing up her playing future ahead of this season, strongly considering a coaching role with the Dockers before opting to pull on the boots again.
