DESPITE now existing in a two-team town for the first time, Adelaide has done well to retain the bulk of its premiership list. They have even added some extra strength in the process, although they do look marginally thinner in front of the ball with Erin Phillips no longer there.

After an action-packed trade and draft period, and ahead of AFLW season seven, womens.afl reporters Gemma Bastiani and Sarah Black have taken on the task of putting together each club's best 21 on paper. This isn't each side's likely R1 side, but rather a look at what each team's ideal line-up could be.

Changes from last season

With Eloise Jones' move into the midfield last season the Crows became less reliant on Phillips through the middle of the ground, and now with the recruitment of Niamh Kelly they will find more run on the outside.

Lisa Whiteley will likely see more opportunity up forward as well, with her bigger body needed with Phillips gone, while last season's leading goalkicker Ashleigh Woodland and Danielle Ponter will remain as the main targets inside 50.

Captain Chelsea Randall is incredibly versatile, but thanks to Chelsea Biddell's stellar season down back and the recruitment of Amber Ward, coach Matthew Clarke has the option to play her at centre half-forward, with her neat kicking helping to connect midfield and forward.

In the mix

Hannah Munyard misses out to Madison Newman purely due to Newman's ability to win more ball, but the former could certainly press for that place in the side.

Forwards Abbie Ballard, McKenzie Dowrick and Jess Waterhouse will threaten for Ailish Considine's spot, with the latter's ability to get into games lacking at times.

Kiera Mueller's one-on-one ability down back does provide a lockdown option given Angela Foley has now moved to Port Adelaide, and the run out of defence both Keeley Kustermann and Brooke Tonon offer may be called upon throughout the season.

Meanwhile in the ruck, the Caitlin Gould/Montana McKinnon proved golden last season, but if needed the Crows can call on Zoe Prowse or Jasmine Simmons.
