ANOTHER two Irish rookies have joined the AFL Women's competition, with a third expected to be announced in the coming days.

Gaelic footballers Kate Flood (from County Louth) and Aine (pronounced Onya) Tighe from County Leitrim have signed with Fremantle, while North Melbourne will confirm the signing of another Gaelic player this week.

Flood, 27, was signed as a virtual replacement for Kellie Gibson (who crossed to West Coast) and is expected to play a dynamic forward-midfielder role.

Tighe, also 27, is 185cm and will go some way to filling the ruck void after the loss of Alicia Janz and Parris Laurie to the Eagles.

Dockers coach Trent Cooper – who has been in Ireland working with participants in the Crosscoders program – told womens.afl Flood has also played top-level soccer.

"We've already seen her cross codes once (from Gaelic to soccer), so we're confident she'll be able to cross well to a third sport and have a big impact," Cooper said.

"We're actually used to not winning the ruck and having to read off the opposition, so we're hoping Aine will help us out enormously. She's super-athletic, moves well and is capable of taking the ball out of the ruck.

"She's definitely capable of playing forward as well."

The signings of Flood and Tighe take the number of Irishwomen in the AFLW to 10.
