BRISBANE'S commanding win over Greater Western Sydney has been recognised with four players named in womens.afl's Team of the Week.

Reflective of the club's team, the Lions are spread over the field, with Nat Grider and Breanna Koenen in defence, Emily Bates in the middle, and Greta Bodey up forward.

The team is selected to mirror the All-Australian side: five defenders, six midfielders (including a ruck), five forwards and five interchange players.

Like the All-Australian team, it has players selected in general categories, rather than in traditional positions. The 16-a-side set-up often means teams play with varying configurations, making set selections (e.g wings and flanks) difficult.

DEFENDERS

Jordyn Allen (Collingwood), Chelsea Biddell (Adelaide), Libby Birch (Melbourne), Nat Grider (Brisbane), Bianca Jakobsson (St Kilda)

Biddell (20 disposals, 10 intercepts) almost single-handedly kept Adelaide in the game before the Crows' last-gasp win, while Birch (13, nine intercepts, seven marks) was a constant thorn in North Melbourne's side.

Allen's fine start to the season continued with 18 disposals and seven intercepts, Jakobsson (21 and eight) was dominant in the air against the Hawks, and Grider (14 and 12) dictated play from half-back.

MIDFIELDERS

Breann Moody (Carlton, ruck), Emily Bates (Brisbane), Ali Drennan (Gold Coast), Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne), Amy McDonald (Geelong), Alyce Parker (GWS)

The coaches agreed in naming Moody the best player on the park, dominating an inexperienced Essendon ruck outfit to record 12 disposals, 30 hitouts and nine clearances.

Bates (20, four clearances and two goals) tore the Giants apart, Garner (22, 10 clearances and 428m gained) nearly dragged the Roos over the line, while Drennan (24, nine tackles, seven clearances) starred against West Coast.

Parker (27, eight clearances, seven marks) fought valiantly against the tide, and McDonald (29 and five clearances) created plenty of run for the Cats.

FORWARDS

Greta Bodey (Brisbane), Caitlin Greiser (St Kilda), Courtney Jones (Gold Coast), Bonnie Toogood (Essendon), Darcy Vescio (Carlton)

Vescio capitalised on Carlton's midfield dominance at the start of the game to boot three goals from their 11 touches, with Greiser kicking into gear with three of her own, along with seven hitouts.

Toogood (16 disposals, three marks) was instrumental in nearly pinching a win against Carlton, Jones (12 and two goals) found her feet quickly in her first game for the Suns and Bodey (13, two goals, 300m gained) covered a huge amount of distance against the Giants.

INTERCHANGE

Breanna Koenen (Brisbane, defence), Monique Conti (Richmond, midfield), Jaimee Lambert (Collingwood, midfield), Georgie Prespakis (Geelong, midfield), Jordan Membrey (Collingwood, forward)

Koenen performed the tricky shutdown role on Cora Staunton to aplomb, while at the other end of the field, Membrey kicked two goals from her nine touches and five marks.

The final midfield spots are taken by Conti (26, seven tackles, 428m gained), Prespakis (20 and nine clearances) and Lambert (20, five clearances).
