STAR Port Adelaide forward Gemma Houghton will be sidelined for six to seven weeks after suffering a syndesmosis injury in Saturday's loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Houghton, who kicked Port Adelaide's only goal for the match after slotting the club's first the previous week, got her foot caught under her in a tackle in the second term. She has since undergone successful surgery on her ankle.

Expansion recruit Tessa Doumanis looks a likely addition to the side with Houghton out, after a strong showing in Port Adelaide's pre-season match against Essendon, while Lily Johnson is also an option for head coach Lauren Arnell.

She joins a host of players who have been ruled out long term after round two, including Greater Western Sydney pair Tait Mackrill and Chloe Dalton.

Mackrill, who has been important through the middle this season, has suffered a foot injury which will see her miss the remainder of the season, and Dalton's horror run with injury continues, with a hamstring strain sidelining her for eight weeks.
