It has also been officially confirmed Tarni Brown (daughter of Collingwood's Gavin) will be taken as a father-daughter selection on October 6, with Alice Burke (daughter of Nathan) to head to St Kilda.

A midfielder, Brown is a competitive player with clean hands under pressure. The former basketballer only started playing footy at 14 for Donvale, before being snapped up by Eastern Ranges in the NAB League.

Burke is also a midfielder, and a ferocious one at that. Having crossed from high-level soccer, she has won two best and fairests with Sandringham Dragons and has strong skills on both sides of her body.

While Brown and Burke have long been earmarked as father-daughter signings, having come through the talent pathway, the 21-year-old Smith has bolted onto an AFLW list.

It's an incredible rise up the ranks for Smith, who in 2019 played her first season of footy with local club Aberfeldie in the Essendon District Football League.

She was due to play for Williamstown in the VFLW this year until the cancellation of the season due to COVID-19.

A former basketballer with Keilor in the top division of Big V, Smith's athleticism in the midfield set her apart in her first season with Aberfeldie, but North Melbourne is looking to slot the 170cm Smith in defence or on the wing.

Shaun, 51, played 47 games for the Kangaroos between 1987 and 1992, as well as a further 62 with Melbourne (1995-1998). He recently received a $1.4 million insurance payout due to mental health issues thought to be connected to concussion injuries he suffered during his time in football. His son Joel currently plays for the Demons.

In the case multiple clubs wish to claim the same father-daughter selection, the player gets to choose, but in this case, Melbourne did not place a bid.
